Umm... "F" you, BYU.

Keep in mind that I'm still bitter about what BYU's team did to Chance Kretchmer and his knee - he could've been the greatest running back EVER... but no, somebody had to go and whack him in the side of the knee when he was well out of bounds. Great. He was from Nye County, too, which made him so much more intriguing to this former Pahrump resident.

So, BYU postpones the third game of our series twice. Then, we ask them repeatedly if we can postpone the game for 2008. Their response?

BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe said the postponement puts the Cougars in a tight spot and that BYU might seek to recover damages from a breach of contract.

"We are disappointed to learn that Nevada, Reno has decided to drop BYU from its 2008 schedule," Holmoe said in a statement. "This puts us in a very difficult situation to find a comparable opponent for our season-opening game with such late notice."

Oh, you mean like the difficulties we had in 2003 and 2004? Personally, I'd be happy if we never played them again. Something tells me the only reason they're upset now is because our team is having a weak year; they're hoping that we'll be just as weak next year so they have a fighting chance of beating us. Well, too bad - we're going to get whipped by quality teams like Texas Tech and Missouri instead! Ha!

On an entirely unrelated note, just for the benefit of my Nebraska-rooted compatriot, they went with Bill Pulini. Looks like the Buffalo coach is still available.

  1. Maybe Nevada should just schedule the BYU game, and then forfeit. It might be better for the program to avoid Florida State, Notre Dame, and BYU all together next season. I mean who are the Groth/Ault team kidding?

Second, keep up the good work on this blog.

Finally, I'm not sure if Groth would ever actually "fire" Ault, but maybe Mr. Ault decides enough is enough and retires on his own.

  2. First, Chance K. is from Tonopah, not Pharump.

Second, Nebraska hired Bo Pollini, not Bill Pulini

  3. No, but Pahrump and Tonopah are both in Nye county, so my commerade is merely pointing out those common roots.

And I think I've already given him enough hell for you in misinterpreting Bo's name.

  4. For years I have believed that we have the most vile fans in the country and largely, that opinion remains true every time I see some drunk get pepper sprayed and/or tased by deputies.

However, when I recall the BYU game in 2002 and every Utah State game in both sports (including one basketball game I attended in Logan in 2006), I can say that Utah fans are actually more repugnant than our own. Without going into too many details to cite here, I can comfortably say that in general those people are the mouthiest cowards ever to exist.

I don't know if it's an anti-non-Mormon sentiment from those who belong to that cult, er, religion or if residents of that state are simply incorrigible, but they certainly run their mouths with some of the most insulting and inappropriate vitriol I have heard...fraternity life included. For a supposedly family-centered populace, they have never set a very good example in my presence. The most appalling thing about the trash-talking is that it is entirely unsolicited. I mean, who goes to another school's venue and runs his mouth with obscenities? In front of children, no less!

If BYU or USU never came here again it would be too soon.
